A reconnaissance of trace organic compounds and metals in GLOBAQUA river basins: Effects on ecosystems and risk assessment

09 November 2017 - 10 November 2017

Barcelona, Spain

This GLOBAQUA workshop, which will be held on 9-10 November 2017, will compile the data obtained from the chemical analysis performed in the samples from the GLOBAQUA basins. Several priority and emerging pollutants, as well as nanomaterials, have been analysed in Adige, Evrotas and Sava in order to identify relevant multi-stress situations across these basins of study. With these data it is possible to study the fate and behaviour of these pollutants under multiple-stress conditions and their potential effects on ecosystems as well as their associated risk. As a further step the preliminary results of the controlled field experiments and manipulative laboratory experiments testing the effects of multiple pressures on fate and behaviour of pollutants will be also presented.

New predictive tools to improve river water management from local to European scale

16 March 2017 - 17 March 2017

Sesimbra, Portugal

The workshop is organised by MARS, GLOBAQUA with the collaboration of SOLUTIONS with the final objective to address common products between the projects. The workshop includes parallel sessions for each of the topics under discussion as well as Plenary sessions at the beginning and the end of the workshop. Each topic is led by a chairman of each of the participant projects in order to encourage the audience to discuss and end up with ideas for integrated papers including the three projects. The workshop is open only for the members of the three projects and it will be a unique opportunity to sum up the already ongoing collaboration between MARS and GLOBAQUA on the basin-analyses but also to start new ones both with MARS and SOLUTIONS.

Towards the assessment of ecological status of water bodies in the Sava River Basin

10 February 2016 - 12 February 2016

Ljubljana, Slovenia

The close cooperation between the STAWA with the GLOBAQUA project has been established aiming to employ joint capacities in development of the database and addressing of the problem of prioritization of the pollutants using the same data for modelling and predicting of the pollutants fate. The Sava River Basin is one of the six target basins of the GLOBAQUA project. The two projects jointly organized this workshop aiming to bring together experts in the fields of water research and water management from the region in order to collect cumulative knowledge on the main topics addressed.

Coping with climate change and water scarcity in Africa and Europe: improving monitoring and water use-efficiency in agriculture

17 June 2015 - 17 June 2015

Milan, Italy

The workshop target audience is composed by agriculture and water relevant stakeholders, such as researchers, irrigation specialists and companies, water basins managers, policy makers, as well as farmers and the general public attracted by the subject. During this event six EU funded projects (CLIMAFRICA, WAHARA, EAU4FOOD, MARS, GLOBAQUA, FIGARO), all dealing with water scarcity and water-use in crop production, will present their activities and results. The overall common goal of the six projects presented is the improvement of water monitoring, water management and the efficient use of fresh water in European and African irrigated agriculture. One speaker from each project will present the activities carried out and will highlight the main results obtained and gaps identified in the course of their projects. After each speaking session, the floor will be open for a moderated discussion with the audience. Videos produced by some of the projects will be broadcasted in TV screens outside the room, to attract the attention of the EU pavilion visitors.

Focus on integration and GARBs

08 May 2015 -

Barcelona, Spain

The purpose of this half-day workshop is to bring together experts from the GARBs (GLOBAQUA river basins) and specialists from the different GLOBAQUA WPs to discuss: the identification of relevant stressors, the type of assessment required to understand the joint impact of water scarcity and these stressors on ecosystems and human health/wellbeing; the identification of variables and indicators; the main messages derived from the "experiments" conducted until now and the use of these messages to support improvements in the integrated assessment models.

Pharmaceuticals in wastewater and surface waters under multistressors situation: fate, adverse effects, risks and removal technologies

02 December 2014 - 03 December 2014

Barcelona, Spain

The purpose of the Workshop is to cluster the research on pharmaceuticals residues carried out in three European projects (GLOBAQUA, CYTOTHREAT, ENDETECH) and one Spanish project (SCARCE). Organised by IDAEA (CSIC), the workshop was developed in form of oral talks, posters and discussions, where experts from different fields will share their knowledge. The Workshop that covers the problems associated with the occurrence, treatment and risk of pharmaceuticals will be carried out in four sessions: 1) Analysis of pharmaceuticals in waste waters and hospital effluents, 2) Fate and behavior of pharmaceuticals in Waste Water Treatment Plants and River water, 3) Remediation Technologies and 4) Risk assessment. Partners from the four projects will be presenting their most recent research achievements. The results and conclusions of this Workshop will be highly valuable not only for the scientific community involved in pharmaceutical residue research but also to policy makers, wastewater treatment plants operators and newcomers who want to learn more about state-of-art pharmaceutical contamination in European water resources. All the presentations given during the workshop can be found here.
