A RECONNAISSANCE OF TRACE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS AND METALS IN GLOBAQUA RIVER BASINS: EFFECTS ON ECOSYSTEMS AND RISK ASSESSMENT

The GLOBAQUA workshop took place on 9th - 10th November 2017 at the Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC), in Barcelona (Spain).

It was organised by CSIC in collaboration with project partners, in order to disseminate relevant outcomes of the GLOBAQUA project. The workshop also aimed to build synergies with other EU aquatic science projects and with stakeholders. In this context, the sister project SOLUTIONS participated showing output of the project and a representative from the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) also participated.

The workshop was structured in four parts where researchers from eight European countries presented their findings. The core sessions of the workshop were focused on chemical stressors, biological quality under multiple stressors, bridging chemical exposure with risks and modelling, monitoring and management, main topics of the GLOBAQUA project.

The event was an excellent opportunity to share knowledge generated around Europe. 46 persons took part to the event (52% women), coming from Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and UK. The editorial Springer also participated, sponsoring the Best Poster presentation with a book voucher. The winner was Pau Calatayud-Vernich, for the poster “Occurrence of emerging contaminants in Mediterranean wetland (L’Albufera, Valencia, Spain) by LC-MS/MS”.
